Back in 2019, I took a leap that completely changed my life. Fresh off the plane and filled with excitement, I landed in China, ready to soak up a new culture and explore a place I’d only read about. My journey was part of a dream to experience the world beyond Africa and learn from one of the most dynamic economies in the world. As an African youth with a passion for technology, I knew China was where I wanted to be, given its incredible strides in innovation, tech development, and its long-standing history of cooperation with Africa.

In one exhibition corner, several guests from Chad, Nigeria and Egypt carefully explore traditional cloisonne techniques by painting some cultural products. Nearby, some guests are fully immersed in an 8k ultra HD video experience, which is taking them on a virtual journey from the Central Axis of Beijing to the majestic wildlife migrations of Africa.

2024 marked a fruitful year for Etienne Bankuwiha (Ban Chao), a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Foreign Studies of Nanjing University. In 2024, he published in Burundi a research monograph titled La Mission de l'Institut Confucius en Afrique (The Mission of the Confucius Institute in Africa), as well as six papers and articles to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture in Burundi, such as "The Present and Prospects of Chinese Language Education in Burundi" and "Confucianism and Today's Burundi".
